The Mile High Chapter is home to Sound of the Rockies chorus and is a member of the world's largest all-male singing organization, the Barbershop Harmony Society, an organization of over 30,000 men of all ages, from all walks of life, who love to sing a cappella harmony.
Sound of the Rockies actively participates in and promotes a variety of singing activities along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
We produce two shows each year, a Spring Show (typically in March), and a Christmas Show in December.
Quartets composed of members from the chorus spread Valentine cheer to sweethearts throughout the Metro area during our Singing Valentine program.
The Sound of the Rockies and several chapter quartets are active competitors, participating in district and international competitions sponsored by the Barbershop Harmony Society.
Bring harmony to your special event. The entire chorus or one of the chapter quartets can be engaged to provide entertainment for conventions, meetings, parties, fundraisers, weddings, or for other special occasions. If you love to sing, we encourage you to come by and explore the world of a cappella harmony with us.

In 1999, there were three aspiring Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) chapters in the Denver area. The original barbershop harmony franchise, the Denver Mile-Hi Chapter chartered in 1948; the Denver Mountainaires Chapter chartered in 1975; and the Denver Tech Chapter formed in 1987.
The seven-state Rocky Mountain District (RMD) was created in 1977 in an effort to bind 30 chapters in a more "geographically friendly" area. The Denver Mile-Hi Chapter was the first RMD Chorus Champion and went on to become the perennial champion and representative to the BHS summer convention and competition. While other RMD choruses have excelled in competition (Albuquerque, NM “New Mexichords” and Salt Lake City, UT “The Saltaires Show Chorus”), no one has ever doubted the excellence of choruses from Denver, with the Denver Mile-Hi chorus dominating district competition in the late 70’s and early 80’s and the Denver Tech Chapter assuming top dog in the district shortly after its formation in 1987. However, by 1999, through attrition and lack of leadership, the two former great Denver chapters and choruses were languishing.
A couple of like-minded guys got together to talk about the possibility of merging two average chapters into one great chapter. A small nucleus with representatives from both the Denver Mile-Hi Chapter and the Denver Tech Chapter was formed to discuss all the options, and what was once a small seed was sprouting with enthusiasm. Meeting in local restaurants, the group began in earnest to hammer out the details for a successful merger. A vision statement, mission statement and objectives were developed, all of which remain intact today:

DARIN DROWN is in his 11th year as musical director of Sound of the Rockies and has been instrumental in leading the chorus to international recognition as one of the top performers in the Barbershop Harmony Society.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a music educator for the past 19 years, he is currently the Director of Vocal Music at Grandview High School in Aurora, CO. Darin's love of barbershop started early, seeing his father, Gary, sing in the Chordial Celebration quartet and the Sugar Valley Singers chorus in Scottsbluff, NE. While a trumpet major at the University of Nebraska, Darin founded a college quartet, The Four Hoarsemen, who would go on to compete in the first-ever International Collegiate Quartet contest held in New Orleans in 1992, and place second.
Darin was a member of Freefall, the 1995 Central States District Champion; Crazy Rhythm, the 1999 Rocky Mountain District Champion; and sings baritone for his current quartet, Storm Front, which won the 2002 Rocky Mountain District title. More recently Storm Front won the International Barbershop Harmony contest in 2010 and will forever be remembered as one of the funniest and most entertaining quartets of all time.
A much sought after coach, Darin spends what little free time he has with his wonderful family - wife, Jenny; son, Colin; and daughter, Mary.
